High School English Curriculum
English Department Learning Expectations
  1. The student will develop analytical thinking by reading, interpreting, and evaluating a variety of literary forms and styles.
  2. The student will develop analytical thinking by responding to literature with insight and personal connection.
  3. The student will develop self-directed learning by setting, monitoring, and evaluating his/her own goals.
  4. The student will develop self-directed learning by accessing information from a variety of sources.
  5. The student will demonstrate effective communication by speaking articulately and effectively and listening actively in both lecture and cooperative group situations.
  6. The student will develop effective communication by demonstrating the ability to write clearly and effectively.
  7. The student will develop effective communication by demonstrating the ability to participate in and be aesthetically aware of the visual and performing arts.
